Hit TV Sitcom: Aliens in America

Aliens in America is the story of the Tolchuck Family in a small Wisconsin town who agreed to host a foreign exchange student, hoping a new buddy will solve their son’s social troubles. Justin Tolchuck (Dan Byrd) is a sixteen-year old high school geek who feels isolated and socially inept. Despite all forms of help from her mother, Franny (Amy Pietz), nothing seems to work. So she thought of getting a European kid from London to teach him the ways of the social world.

But things get complicated when at the airport to welcome him, the student turned out to be a Muslim from Pakistan, Raja Musharaff (Adhir Kalyan). Despite his being polite, he was not accepted by the family with open arms.

The show is not about immigration but alienation. It is a metaphor for lots of controversies regarding religion and racial discrimination. It is the first and only sitcom starring a Muslim character.

But Aliens in America is not bad for a comedy show. It is a perfect example of how a sitcom should work. It does not only make points and offer insights, it is also very funny. It addresses issues against Muslims in a clever and amusing way

One of the newest sitcom of CBS Paramount Network Television and Warner Brothers that aired only last October 1, 2007, the show has fighting chance to survive. It seems like the perfect fit for the younger audience. As a warning, the show is not for people who are racists.
