A three-month strike of members of the Writers Guild of America is expected to end as the guild leaders had voted to ask their members to ratify a contract and end their strike. According to Patric Verrone, membership meeting is expected on Tuesday, to which writers will have to decide whether they will continue or end the walkout.

Meanwhile, the writers are very hopeful that with the three-year contract proposed by the studios to increase the writer’s payments for the online use of movies and shows, they can finally gain a good deal.

With the new deal, there will be union jurisdiction for the projects made for Internet based projects and set payment for streamed materials. For the first two years, writers are expected to get a max of $1200 for streamed materials and percentage of gross from distributor’s profit in the third year. This deal is said to be a good development better than the director’s deal, which has flat payment fees.

The board of the writers guild pushed the proposed deal and had cautioned that trying to strike a juicier deal will be harmful to the industry. Michael Moore, Oscar nominated and a guild member who attended the meeting, is confident that the new deal will end the rift that had caused the loss of 1 billion dollars.

In case all the members approve to the contract, they are expected to return to their respective jobs on Wednesday. The return will also signal that the Academy Awards on February 24 will continue as originally planned.
