Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot is one of the most anticipated Stealth Game in the popular Metal Gear series. It was directed by Yoji Shinkawa, Shuyo Murata and Hideo Kojima. Moreover, this Guns of the Patriots game is currently being developed by Kojima Productions exclusively for the Playstation 3 game console.
In this game, Old Snake, the player need to navigate the entire game world so as to progress. This is by using stealth and cunning, in addition to traditional combat. In Metal Gear Solid 4, the series traditional third person view will be used along with full camera manipulation. Hence, it will also provide a freedom to play in the first person mode. This is as well as an “over the shoulder” view which can be switched from right shoulder to left shoulder, for easy corner maneuvering. If you play this game you will also be capable of interrogating the guards. This is for supplies and information. The Close Quarters Combat System will be completely revamped as well. In fact, some of the elements from the previous titles will return in modified forms like the fact that players will use a new form of camouflage termed as the “Octocamo”. This would replace the old camouflage system showcased in the previous Metal Gear Solid 3, as well as the “optical camouflage” featured in MGS as well as MGS 2. The Octocamo suit allows the wearer to blend with any surface when the so-called “dark blue” is disabled only seconds. Aside from this, there is also Solid Eye, which is a new monocular type of device which replaces various binoculars and image intensifiers from previous titles. This is along with the steel drums that complement the series’ traditional cardboard box disguise. It is also capable of deflecting bullets and be rolled in order to knock off the enemy soldiers. Furthermore, the game will be filled with cut-scenes which will explain what happened in Metal Gear 1, 2 and 3 as according to Ryan Payton. Then other valuable information about the Portable Ops, how that relates to MGS4, and how that relates to the final chapter of Solid Snake. The players will have an option if they want to view these scenes by pressing the circle button on their actual controller, but that is only when prompted. Thus, even if these cut-scenes are informative enough for a hardcore fan of this exciting series, it will be that straight forward so as to cater well for its mainstream gamers. In fact, players will also have a choice to view these cut-scenes which are from predetermined angles of the camera or through the exploration using the Metal Gear Mk.II. Snake will have a robotic drone as his partner, which is the Metal Gear Mk.II. This will allow him to have communication with the other characters. This is also in addition for the so-called CODEC radio system from the previous game. Aside from this, this game is also able to engage enemies through the use of a type of electric shock, as well as by providing reconnaissance. Hence, this robotic drone is a reminiscent of Gillians Seed’s robotic sidekick in Metal Gear Mk.II which is from the game Snatcher series. Due to lack of a rumble feature, which is one of the important features of Metal Gear Solid titles from Playstation 3, the game had been designed with a new feature. This would be a white-colored Threat Ring which visibly vibrates once there is a presence of sound heard nearby. This is another convenient addition during much of the game’s development. As this series is known for the extensive use of rumble, Sony announced the re-introduction of a new Dual Shock 3. MGS4 was also announced as one of the first major games that made use of the forced feedback capabilities. In fact, according to Kojima, once the so-called rumble was later on implemented, the player may then remove the needed Threat Ring.
The health of Snake also plays a big factor in the gameplay. If he is injured on the battlefield, or he cuts and burns himself, the fragments and markings will remain on his skin. However, the developers want to avoid putting the stress of Snake’s health on the players, which is why they put a muscle suit that allows a player to move in a similar fashion, just like in previous games. Some other changes made, which were announced, included the new Psyche Meter which will replace the stamina meter of previous Metal Gear Games. This is along with the Baseline Map which is a radar map that has a dynamically re-sized circle, based on Snake’s presence in the environment. |
