Sean Parker’s Rise of Facebook And Twitter, Fall Of Google Presentation (Full Slide Deck)

Yesterday at the Web 2.0 Summit, Founder’s Fund managing partner Sean Parker gave a provocative presentation entitled “The New Era Of The Network Service.” In it, he argues that so-called “network services” like Facebook (which he helped start) and Twitter will soon dominate the web, rather than “information services” like Google and Yahoo. It’s a very interesting idea, to say the least, and obviously you’re interested in it, as about 200 of you commented on it yesterday.

Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

Apple’s “I’m a PC” and “I’m a Mac” dynamic ad duo are at it again in three new “Get a Mac” commercials that take direct aim at today’s Windows 7 launch. In “Broken Promises,” PC Guy flashes back to Windows editions over the years (with fashion or lack thereof to match), each promising not to have “any of the problems my last operating system had.” The ad ends with the line “this time it’s gonna be different. Trust me.

Even Star Investors Can’t Save DotBlu From The DeadPool

DotBlu, which we first covered in 2007 when it was called BluBet, had some of Silicon Valley’s highest profile angel investors backing it. But it wasn’t enough, and company hit the deadpool earlier this week. Investors in an early angel round included Jawed Karim (Co-Founder of YouTube), Kevin Hartz (Co-Founder of Xoom and Eventbrite), Joe Greenstein (Co-Founder and CEO of Flixster) and Keith Rabois (Former PayPal & LinkedIn Executive and Current Slide Executive). A later $2 million round was funded by Maples Investments and DE Shaw.

Motorola Droid Looks Set to Kill Us All [Pics]

The marketing campaign for the upcoming Motorola Droid is in full swing, with the new phone looking to be both the definitive Android handset and a genuine challenger to the iPhone. Following a fairly vicious attack on the iPhone through the launch of the “DroidDoes” ad campaign, which essentially calls out all of the iPhone’s shortcomings, an associated mail marketing campaign has also been launched for the device.

    Blogging Faceoff: Wordpress vs. Typepad

It’s that time once again: time for another head-to-head in our weekly Faceoff series! If you’ve been with us in our previous Faceoffs, you’ll know how this works.

This Used To Be My Playground

Maybe you’ve read some of the stories this past week about how FriendFeed’s traffic is way down following their sale to Facebook. The stats don’t look good, as the site’s traffic may have plummeted as much as 30% following its peak just prior to the sale. But to anyone who has meaningfully used the site since its inception, you probably didn’t needs stats to tell you what should be obvious: FriendFeed has turned into a ghost town. One of the most compelling things about FriendFeed has always been just how easy it was to have a conversation on the site.

    A Troll Squats On WWWBING.com — Literally

Last week, we wrote about the best website ever, wwwtwitter.com. Okay, really it’s just a commonly mistyped domain that is currently redirecting to TechCrunch (and the owner actually updated it to direct to my article specifically — thanks, whoever you are!). In that post, I mentioned that while many big name brands own the wwwBRANDNAME.com domain and forward it to their real one, Microsoft did not own it for their current darling site, Bing. At the time, the domain simply pointed to a page with a bunch of links.

MySpace, YourSpace, Whatever. Ali Partovi Is Win.

One thing about MySpace – they’ve always had far more colorful executives than the more buttoned up Facebook exec team. Of course, those partying and committing federal crimes days are history with the new team in place. Or so we thought… A new group of execs were brought in today. And among them are the cofounders of music startup iLike, Ali Partovi and Hadi Partovi. As usual, we peruse the MySpace profiles of new execs because every once in a while we find a new exec hire that hasn’t actually ever used the service.
