Apple And Verizon: Are Two Star-Crossed Lovers Ready To Consummate?
Apple and Verizon. Two star-crossed lovers. A few years ago, when Apple originally set out with the idea of giving the iPhone to one carrier exclusively in the U.S., they first went to Verizon. But the network balked at some of Apple’s demands, which at the time of complete and utter carrier dominance in this country, must have seemed like a joke. So instead, Apple with with AT&T, and the rest is history.

The Dark Side of the Late 2009 M&A Surge
With the year—and decade—coming to a close, the business press has been awash with stories about just how lousy the ‘00s were. As Paul Krugman details in the New York Times, it was a decade with a tiny amount of job creation, and the first decade on record where private-sector jobs shrunk. The typical family got no economic boost at all. And when the volatility rollercoaster ended there was also no appreciation in home prices and zero gains on stocks. That pain was felt by venture capitalists as well.

The World Doesn’t Need Someone Telling Us What We Don’t Need In Tech
If Joe Wilcox ran the computer industry, we’d still be using typewriters. Wilcox has a lengthy post today on BetaNews saying that the world doesn’t need an Apple tablet. And while Wilcox does have some decent general points mixed in with some bad ones, this is hardly a new thought. In fact, it’s little more than an extension of a concept that has been around for a while, but has been reinvigorated recently as the hype around Apple swirls: That tablet computers are a niche product.

2010: My Fifth Annual List Of The Tech Products I Love And Use Every Day
It’s time for my annual list of technology products that I love and use every day. This is the (wow) fifth year I’ve done this. Here are my previous lists: 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006. The scope of the list has changed over time. In 2006 it was just about websites. Now the list includes other web services, some desktop software and even a few gadgets. These aren’t necessarily newly launched products (see Daniel Raffel’s post yesterday for a solid list of great new products).

Man Pays Record $330,000 for a Virtual Space Station
We’re not even sure what category to file this story under. We’re utterly baffled by this one. Earlier this year, the Crystal Palace Space Station went onto virtual auction in the Entropia Universe massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG). Entropia Universe is well known for its “real cash economy,” where $1 can buy you 10 PEDs (Project Entropia dollars) in the virtual world. The Crystal Palace is a huge virtual space station that orbits the Planet Calypso.

John Mayer Wants You To Defragment Your Brain With A Digital Cleanse
Anyone who follows John Mayer on Twitter knows that he’s a smart guy. A bit kooky at times, sure. But he’s definitely not just shooting his mouth off with self-promotional drivel. He’s built up quite a following on the service too, with over 2.8 million Twitter followers. So when he invites all of his fans to give up Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks for a week, you know there are a lot of people paying attention. Tonight, Mayer has announced a One Week Digital Cleanse.

Outside Puts The iPhone Weather App To Shame
I typically use the Weather iPhone app maybe once a week, if not even ever. The only reason I would ever use the application is if a friend asked me the weather for a certain day of the week. Outside is trying to change the way we see weather applications on the iPhone with their new iPhone app developed by Robocat. Outside combines current weather and local forecasts with custom push notifications on the iPhone.

You Think You Like Macs? Rapping Apple Fanatics Have You Beat [VIDEO]
Some Mac fanboys will go to great lengths to express their undying love for Apple products. In today’s edition of extreme Mac appreciation, the guys behind the Mac or PC viral video have come out with a sequel. The Pantless Knights just put out a video spoofing the Saturday Night Live/T-pain “I’m on a Boat” video. Their goal, of course, is to get you to switch from PC to Mac (or to rack up millions of YouTube views, which shouldn’t be a problem for them).

Diggnation’s Alex Albrecht launches an iPhone app: Duel
Alex Albrecht is on Wikipedia. Therefore, he is important. Not only that, but he also made a cool iPhone app that hit the store for just $1. Cheap. Like all the other iPhone apps. Unlike most other $1 iPhone apps, this one is pretty fun. The concept is simple: Duel enables you to host a duel on your iPhones. (Don’t fret, parental-types; though this iPhone duel will pay homage to the duels of the Wild Wild West, it will differ in one major way: nobody’s gonna get shot.
