Plug the router’s power supply into an outlet and look for its name in your computer’s wireless list. The router’s default name, however, immediately appear as soon as it is plugged in. Next, plug one end of the cable that came with your router to one of its four ports except the one labeled “Internet” or “WAN”. Plug the other end into your computer’s LAN port. Next, the router should be configured using any web browser software and change the following settings: change the router’s default password so others cannot gain access to it; give the network a name which is not too personal; enable the DHCP option to make it a DHCP server; lastly, enable wireless security if the router supports it. After completing the configuration, unplug the cable from the computer to the router. Plug the cable from your modem into the WAN port. It is important to unplug the modem’s power supply completely turning it off. Next, re-plug the cable modem’s power supply, and turn it on to connect to the Internet. A few more tips:
