Winehouse got the Record of the Year Award but the Song of the Year eluded her as it was awarded to Herbie Hancock for his tribute to legendary jazz icon Joni Mitchell with the album “River: The Joni Letters”. According to Hancock, the award is not really for him as he offers it to legendary jazz singers before him. Aside from Winehouse, Kanye West is also a big winner of the night as he won four awards, which included the Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance from his rap album entitled “Graduation”. The ceremony created much buzz about the possibility of Winehouse performing at the awards night since she was denied a working visa to enter the US days before the actual Grammy Awards. Although the decision was later reverted, it was too late for her to travel to Los Angeles. Grammy organizers then had decided to let Winehouse perform through a live feed from one studio in London. With a cabaret audience, she had a dramatic performance at four in the morning London time. Winehouse, whose personal life that included drug troubles, rehabilitation and erratic behavior is the current hot topic in the music industry, had confidently performed her hit songs “You Know I’m No Good” and “Rehab”. |
